How the calculator splits a bill
Evenly, it divides the total by the number of people and rounds each share to the cent. Rounding usually leaves a cent or two over, so those cents go, one each, to the first people in the list. Split $100 between three people and the shares are $33.34, $33.33 and $33.33: together, exactly $100.
By percentage, you give each person a share, such as 50, 30 and 20. The percentages need to add up to 100, and the same rounding rule keeps the total exact.
By income, each person pays in proportion to what they earn. With incomes of 3,000 and 2,000, the split is 60/40, which is the usual way couples share household costs when their pay differs.
Your numbers stay on your device
The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, stored or added to the page address, and you don't need an account.
When one calculation isn't enough
A calculator answers one bill. A trip, a shared flat or a relationship produces dozens of them, paid by different people on different days. That's when a running balance helps more than a calculator:
- every expense is recorded once, with who paid and who it was for;
- balances add up on their own, per currency;
- you settle once, instead of after every bill.
Split bill calculator: common questions
How do you split a bill evenly?
Divide the total by the number of people and round each share to the cent. If the division leaves cents over, some people pay one cent more, so the shares still add up to the bill.
How do you split a bill unevenly?
Give each person a percentage that reflects what they had or what you agreed, making sure the percentages add up to 100. Then multiply the total by each percentage.
Is the calculator free?
Yes. It's free, needs no account, and works in any browser on your phone or computer.
